A few years ago in Hamburg
About 6 years ago in Hamburg I was working on a game-related project trying to create an immersive, massive 3D online world in which members can create own content, sell it and interact with almost everything this virtual world had to offer. When I recall all the esoteric ideas some of our designers had, the scale of the project itself and the dot-com-craziness everybody had at that time, I could not believe in ever completing the project and my own personal opinion at the time was that the project was doomed to fail from the start. And so it came, somewhere around summer 2002, the project was cancelled for several reasons.
On the 1st of March 2006 LindenLabs presented their virtual 3d online world SecondLife to Google, and here is video footage of the presentation on google video.
Glimpse Inside a Metaverse: The Virtual World of Second Life
It’s a funny feeling watching this video and looking back at my own expieriences during the dot-com-big-bang in 2000/2001.
